Kumon North America, Inc. Responds to Allegations Regarding Franchisee from Kumon Math & Reading Center of Norwalk, California
NORWALK, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
Kumon North America, Inc. confirms that on Thursday, September 8, 2011
Frank Chung, the franchisee for the Kumon Math & Reading Center of
Norwalk, California was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sherriff's
Department. He is suspected of committing lewd acts with a 13-year old
female, as well as other unidentified individuals, in Norwalk,
California. Mr. Chung was arrested without incident and is currently
being held in police custody in lieu of $1 million bail and awaiting
arraignment. Kumon Centers are independently owned and operated
franchises. Franchisor, Kumon North America, Inc. is fully cooperating
with the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department in their investigation.
Kumon North America, Inc.'s highet priority is the safety and education
of its students. Its guiding principle is to ensure that the students'
best interests are served. Background checks, including an FBI check,
are run on every franchisee, including Mr. Chung.
The Kumon Math & Reading Center of Norwalk, California will be closed on
Saturday, September 10, 2011. Beginning on Monday, September 12, 2011,
the Center is scheduled to be open during regular class hours in Mr.
Chung's absence.
Parents have the option to immediately transfer students to any other
Kumon Center if they would prefer to do so at no additional cost to the
family.
