'Teen Mom' on probation for video fightSep 09, 2011 (Star-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- "Teen Mom 2" star Jenelle Evans received a 30-day suspended sentence and 12 months' supervised probation for a fight that tens of thousands viewed online. The charge stemmed from an incident in March when Evans tusseled with then-friend Brittany Truett at Sunset Harbor, a fight caught on video. Truett and Brittany Maggard, who allegedly pushed Evans into Truett were also found guilty of simple affray during the session Friday in Brunswick County District Court. In an interview, Dustin Sullivan, Evans' attorney, said he was "ecstatic" with the ruling because it showed Evans was not solely to blame for the altercation. "I think Jenelle was happy about everything as well," he said. "Finally the truth was presented.... She's watched the news and read the stories, and she definitely has been portrayed as the attacker." That wasn't so, Sullivan said. "She's been having to sit there and deal with that when she knows what the truth was." Evans arrived at court followed by MTV cameras. Inside, she sat at a table with Sullivan, as well as Truett and Maggard. Each young woman had her own attorney. The state called three witnesses, a detective with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office and two young men who were present at the fight. The young men testified that Evans and Truett had been arguing on Facebook, and people knew of the fight ahead of time. Truett's attorney, Adrian Iapalucci, argued his client was not looking for a fight. He held his arms out, mimicking Truett, and said she asked Evans to leave the property. "That's when she gets clocked," Iapalucci said. "My client didn't want to fight." Evans shook her head no as he spoke. Assistant District Attorney Cathi Radford said Truett could have stayed in the house. "This fight was definitely planned," she said. Three times, District Court Judge Sherry Tyler came down from the bench to view videos of the incident, one from a teen's cell phone and another from celebrity website TMZ. Attorneys also gathered around a laptop to view the video. Sullivan said that no one involved was scared enough to call 911. "Nobody tried to stop any altercation from taking place," he said. In her ruling, Judge Tyler found all three defendants guilty of simple affray. In addition to the 30-day suspended sentence and year of supervised probation, Tyler also ordered Evans to have no contact with Maggard or Truett, or any person present at the fight. Evans also was ordered to complete 24 hours of community service, pay a $100 fine and attend an anger management course. Truett received the same sentence. Maggard received a similar sentence, however she received a 45-day suspended sentence. Evans, of Oak Island, has been involved in several incidents that have led to court appearances and national headlines. She was previously scheduled to appear in Brunswick County District Court in August on a probation violation charge but had the case continued until October. In April, Evans was sentenced to 12 months' probation and community service for a drug paraphernalia possession charge. Evans first appeared on MTV when she was featured on "16 and Pregnant." Filming for the season of "Teen Mom 2" wrapped up earlier this year, though Evans still has been seen with MTV camera crews at the courthouse. On the way into the courthouse Friday, Evans paused to put on her high-heeled shoes. She started to walk in, but camera crews asked her to step back so they could film it again.
