Will be Updated. ___ Ice hockey crash revives Munich memories at United SOC-Man-United-Lokomotiv-Disaster MANCHESTER _ Manchester United has written to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl to sympathize after all but one of the Russian ice hockey team's players died in a plane crash, a tragedy that has revived memories of the English football club's air disaster. In one of the worst aviation crashes ever in sports, 28 Lokomotiv players travelling to Belarus for their first game of the season were among the 43 people who died when their chartered Yak-42 jet crashed Wednesday shortly after takeoff. BUZZ Man City CEO Cook quits over offensive email SOC-Man-City-Cook-Resigns LONDON _ Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook resigned Friday after he was investigated by the Abu Dhabi-owned club for emailing a player's mother ridiculing her cancer. Defender Nedum Onuoha's mother received a message sent accidentally by Cook which mocked her use of the phrase "ravaged with it" in the original email about her cancer treatment. MOVED. --- Norway captain issues apology for late night SOC-Norway-Riise-Apology OSLO _ Norway captain John Arne Riise has issued an apology to national team coach Egil "Drillo" Olsen after many of the team's players last week stayed out late to celebrate their European Championship qualifying win over Iceland. Norwegian media has been in frenzy over the news, especially since the team lost to Denmark only four days later, marginalizing its chances to qualify for Euro 2012. MOVED. --- Spurs keen on signing Beckham after LA deal ends SOC-Beckham-Future LONDON _ English clubs are keen on signing David Beckham when his Major League Soccer contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy expires at the end of the year. Both Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers have spoken this week of trying to bring the former England captain to London in January. MOVED. --- Briggs expects fine for Sept. 11 uniform FBN-Bears-Briggs-Uniform CHICAGO _ Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs says he expects to be fined for violating the NFL's uniform policy on Sunday. Briggs says he plans to wear cleats and gloves designed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The red, white and blue gloves and shoes, designed by Reebok, are not approved for use as part of the Bears' uniform. MOVED. ___ Burress criticizes Coughlin, others in mag FBN-Burress-Men's-Journal NEW YORK _ Plaxico Burress has criticized Giants coach Tom Coughlin, quarterback Eli Manning and fans for the way they reacted when he was sent to prison on a gun charge. Burress, now with the Jets, told Men's Journal magazine that he wished Coughlin had shown some concern when he met with him after accidentally shooting himself in the leg in November 2008. He added that Coughlin is "not a real positive coach." MOVED. "Sports are based on the emotions," KHL vice-president Ilya Kochevrin said Friday in an interview. "Nobody wants to exploit emotions, but I think you need to keep those emotions going. Otherwise, it's very easy to switch the emotions to something else. ___ Argos hope Jyles makes difference against B.C. FBO-CFL-Argos-Lions SURREY, B.C. _ The addition of quarterback Steven Jyles to the lineup will give the Toronto Argonauts a different look when they face the B.C. Lions in CFL play Saturday night. MOVED Datafile only. ___ Bell Media partners with CBC for Olympic bid OLY-TV-Canada-Olympic TORONTO _ Bell Media says it will partner with the CBC in a bid for the Canadian broadcasting rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games. The telecommunications company, which owns CTV and the TSN sports network, announced the pairing with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. a day after Bell's current partner Rogers decided to bow out of a future partnership.
