TiVo adds Harvard professor to board(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ALVISO, Calif. -- TiVo Inc. said Friday that it has added a Harvard business professor to its board of directors. The new director, David Yoffie, has been on the Harvard Business School faculty for 30 years. His research and consulting work on competitive strategy, technology and international competition would be a boon to TiVo, the company said. Yoffie is on the boards of chip maker Intel Corp., mobile technology company HTC Corp. and technology consultant MindTree, among other companies. He also serves on the board of the National Bureau of Economic Research. Yoffie's appointment, effective Wednesday, brought TiVo's board to seven members from six. Joe Uva, the former CEO of Univision Communications Inc., left the board last month. TiVo, which is based in Alviso, Calif., outside San Jose, makes set-top boxes that record, pause, rewind and fast-forward live TV. It faces fierce competition as cable and satellite companies add DVR functions to their own set-top boxes, and it has been losing subscribers. The company has lost money every year since 1998, except 2008. Yoffie said in a statement that he looked forward "to helping TiVO achieve profitable and sustained growth across a global footprint." TiVo shares fell 15 cents, or 1.4 percent to $10.55 Friday, less that the markets overall. (c) 2011 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
