SAFARICOM to Upgrade Internal Security(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Listed telecom Safaricom has issued a multimillion shilling tender to upgrade its IT system and better manage the use of its premises. In a paid advertisement, the mobile operator listed six major areas it plans to improve its internal systems including network access control, secure web gateway and email content filtering systems. The planned systems will for example control how Safaricom staff access not just the company's premises but also which areas of the Local Area Network they have access to. Spam and other unauthorized email messages will be locked out of the company's email system with the use of an Email Content Filtering System. The company also plans to deploy a Secure Web Gateway Proxy Appliances to perform deep content inspection of data flowing through its internal network to scan for viruses, malware and spam. Physical access will be regulated through the use of an Identity and Access Management System while people movement within the premises will also be monitored and logged through the use of a Security Information and Event Management Solution. The system upgrades while termed routine come at a time when global awareness of the risk of computer networks from hackers is considerably heightened. Copyright Nairobi Star.
