Affiliated Computer Services to hire 250 for Springs call center [Gazette, The (CO)](Gazette, The (CO) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Affiliated Computer Services Inc. said Wednesday it plans to hire 250 additional employees for its Colorado Springs call center by year's end to help a major wireless carrier meet increased customer demand. The center at 2424 Garden of the Gods Road is hiring customer service representatives and technical support agents and will begin four-week training classes on Tuesday, said Tammy Boucher, a division vice president in the Business Process Solutions Group of Dallas-based ACS. The jobs pay "competitive wages" and include benefits ranging from medical, dental, life and vision coverage as well as tuition reimbursement, she said. Potential employees can apply online at www.acs-inc.com or at the call center during business hours. ACS employs 600 in the Springs; that's about half as many as the company said in October it planned to employ after adding 450 workers last fall. The company also doubled the space it was leasing from Verizon Business to 60,000 square feet, but does not currently use the additional space or employ as many as it had planned because of seasonality in the wireless carrier's business and attrition in its own workforce, Boucher said. ACS opened the Springs call center in mid-2009. Nationwide, Boucher said ACS is adding about 3,000 permanent jobs at call centers in the Springs, Kentucky, Maine, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington to handle increased demand from a client in the health care industry and the wireless carrier, which she would not identify. ACS, which was acquired by Xerox Corp. last year, employs 34,000 at 150 call centers worldwide handling more than 1 million calls a day in 20 languages.
