Winchester Systems Offers New NAS Servers

BILLERICA, MA, Sep 07, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Winchester Systems Inc., a leading data storage solutions provider, today announced two new NAS models: FlashNAS FN-1200 Series low cost NAS powered by Intel LV5128 and FlashNAS FN-1500 Series high speed NAS powered by single or dual Intel Xeon 3470 quad-core processors.

FlashNAS FN-1200 is low cost yet supports large storage to 336 TB for SMB and departmental NAS applications. The FN-1500 model is a high performance NAS built on a 1U carrier-class, NEBS-3 compliant server designed to MIL-STD-810G standards and supports 772 TB of storage.

Both NAS products are available as "gateways" with storage-based FlashDisk RAID disk arrays with embedded RAID controllers or as "appliances" with server-based EcoStore RAID disk arrays utilizing internal PCIe RAID controllers. All FlashNAS models run Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 and support storage volumes to 256 TB.

FlashNAS cuts costs since it supports both NAS files and SAN volumes in one unit using embedded Microsoft Unified Storage Services (USS).

Both FlashNAS models offer offers 4 GbE ports native and offer PCIe expansion for additional Fibre Channel, SAS or iSCSI storage. Storage is easily tiered for primary and secondary applications.

All storage on FlashNAS is available to any server on the network and up to 1024 logical volumes can be partitioned and allocated to any of the servers on each FlashDisk array. All popular disk drives including 10k rpm and 15k rpm SAS drives to 3 TB each are supported.

FlashNAS supports snapshots with Volume Shadow Services (VSS) and saves storage with file-level de-duplication using Single Instance Storage (SIS). FlashNAS with Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 is optimized for file serving and delivers 30% higher performance than a standard Windows server. The storage management GUI is intuitive and easy to use.

"Now many IT managers can economically deploy a large scale, high performance NAS to provide both NAS and SAN storage to many servers on their network," explained Mr. Joel Leider, the company's chief executive officer. "FlashNAS delivers NAS and SAN storage at a fraction of the cost of many popular offerings," he added.

FlashDisk features RAID 6 dual parity for the utmost in data protection for valuable data. Even if two disk drives fail or become unreadable, the data will remain intact. According to the company's white paper, "High Speed RAID 6," RAID 6 dual parity offers 500 to 30,000 times longer MTDL (Mean Time To Data Loss) than RAID 5. An informative 6-minute presentation "RAID 6 Essentials" is also available.

FlashNAS appliance pricing starts at under $9,000 plus storage.

Delivery is 1-3 weeks ARO.
