South Korean regulators search offices of Google

Sep 07, 2011 (CORPORATE IT UPDATE via COMTEX) -- 7 September 2011 -- South Korean regulators have raided the offices of Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) in the country, highlighting an increase in antitrust probes into the company's search business internationally, the Financial Times reported.

Tuesday's action came after two Korean Internet groups accused Google earlier this year of unfairly using its Android operating system to hamper competition to its smartphone-centred services, including search.

People familiar with the matter said officials from the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) had visited Google's offices. However, Google refused to confirm or reject the information.

Earlier this year, NHN (SEO:035420), owner of Korea's most popular search engine Naver, and Daum Communications (KDQ:035720) filed a complaint with the KFTC, accusing Google of exerting pressure on smartphone producers to block the preloading of rival services on their handhelds.
