FirstRain Raises More Than $30,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund in Maui Ocean Swim

SAN MATEO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

FirstRain, the innovative analytics software firm whose Business Monitoring Engine™ allows global business professionals to track the critical developments impacting their business, today announced the raising of more than $30,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) as part of a summer of active team building events. FirstRain CEO Penny Herscher raised the money using online fundraising site Crowdrise, in support of her 2.4 miles swim in the Maui Ocean off Makena beach on Labor Day.

Herscher was joined in the Maui 'Aumakua Swim by two other FirstRain colleagues, FirstRain Western Regional Sales Manager Thomas Lai and Marketing Manager Jordy Brazier and supported by their families. She was inspired by her own mother's fight against ovarian cancer, now in remission. "Ovarian cancer is detected in more than 21,000 women a year in the U.S. and more than 15,000 women die," said Herscher. "There is currently no effective means of early detection for this disease and so we are raising money for OCRF and early detection research."

"OCRF celebrates Penny and FirstRain for their accomplishments as both athletes and fundraisers and is so grateful for the support. This donation will help fund our scientific research to find better diagnostics, treatments and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer," said Audra Moran, CEO, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

The FirstRain Maui swim is the culmination of a summer of FirstRain team athletic events including three of the Threshold Racing Splash & Dash races at the Stevens Creek Reservoir in Cupertino, CA (News - Alert), and the Uvas Reservoir in Morgan Hill CA. Employees from FirstRain's US offices, and a few employees from Gurgaon, competed in the Splash and Dash races in relays, teaming up swimmers and runners, and frequently trained together thoughout the summer, plus many employees also joined the races as enthusiastic supporters. "It is an exciting journey to build a company together and competing in teams in fun events like these, both in the US and in India, help us create strong bonds which carry over into the workplace," added Herscher.

"Events like this are a real indicator of a strong, positive company culture," said Bandel Carano, FirstRain Chairman and Managing Partner at Oak Investment Partners. "And strong culture is one of the reasons FirstRain is building a fast-growing and disruptive analytics software firm. The Board is extremely proud of the FirstRain team members' accomplishments this summer."
