Global Satellite Operator Targets CountrySep 05, 2011 (Nairobi Star/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- A global satellite operator,SES, is eyeing the Kenya market as the country runs to beat the analogue to digital Television migration deadline. The company plans to forge partnerships with a licensed signal distributor offering ready technology. The company representatives said in a statement it will be offering support in digital migration ,last mile connectivity, shared video platforms , distribution channels and new technologies such as HDTV and 3DTV. SES has a global fleet of more than 40 geostationary satellites that can reach 99 per cent of the world's population. The international deadline to migrate to Digital broadcasting is December 2015, but the Kenya government recently gave broadcasters up to June 2012 to migrate. Satellite is being seen as an ideal partner in the process. The government has already given out three licences for signal distribution. The first was to Kenya broadcasting Corporation subsidiary,Signet ,and the second to a Chinese firm ,Pan African Network Group. The third signal licence will go to a consortium of Media owners Association. |
