Mwingi Cops Rescue Sick Sect Member's ChildrenSep 05, 2011 (Nairobi Star/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Police on Friday raided the home of a Kavonokya sect adherent in Mwingi East district and rescued three sick children and took them to hospital. A contingent of police officers led by Mwingi OCS Jonathan Wafula were summoned to the home of Mbevo Musili in Kyamwenze village, Mui division, by the assistant chief Julius Musyoka Mukiti after one of the sick children's brother died of measles infection. Ngoo assistant chief called in the police after he stormed the home and stopped the burial of the Mui Secondary school student. He refused to give them burial permit until three other sick children were taken to hospital. Mukiti and councillor Musee Mulongo mobilised to collect money to take the sick children to hospital, the children's parents protested saying it is against their faith to take the sick for "earthly medical care". The father of children helped by another sect adherent stopped the chief from taking the children to hospital.Mukiti then canceled the burial and ordered the mourners out of the compound. He called in the police who arrived at the home immediately and took the children to Mwingi district hospital where they were admitted. Councillor Mulongo blamed the death of the 16 year old Musili Mbevo who was a form one student at Mui Secondary school to the failure by his parent to take him to hospital once he fell sick of the ignorant premised of believe in faith healing."The death of this promising young lad was uncalled for. This is not the first time we are losing a people who prescribe to the Kavonokya sect to diseases that can be healed. It is time the authorities cracked the whip and reigned in on members of this sect who fail to take their children to hospital leading the uncalled for deaths," said the civic leader. |
