Yobo, Nsofor Keep Nation's Cup Hope AliveSep 05, 2011 (Daily Trust/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Nigeria's hope of qualifying for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations got a boost yesterday with an away win over Madagascar in Antananarivo. Second half goals from Joseph Yobo and Victor Obinna gave the Super Eagles 2-0 away in Madagascar to keep alive hopes of African Nations Cup qualification. Nigeria kept pace with Group B leaders Guinea, who they will host in the final qualifying match next month. As at the time of this report, the two countries had 10 points each, with Guinea to play Ethiopia later yesterday. Captain Yobo scored from a John Obi Mikel corner in the 68th minute and Obinna hit home a long-range shot for a second goal, eight minutes later in a result that will have provided much relief for the beleaguered Nigerians. Prior to the match, Coach Samson Siasia, who earlier this week criticized his top players for a casual attitude towards national team duty, surprised Nigerians by dropping long-standing first-choice goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama who had led the team in a row with federation and technical officials over dissatisfaction with travel arrangements. The Super Eagles will travel from Madagascar to Bangladesh where they play Argentina in a friendly tomorrow. |
