Competitions Help Market Farmers' Goods [opinion]

Editor, Sep 05, 2011 (East African Business Week/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Rwanda has just concluded the Coffee Cup of Excellency (CoE) competition that was staged amongst coffee farmers.

This has helped market our coffee regionally and encouraged farmers to better their yeilds. It also makes the country's coffee known across various shelves in the world.

Coffee is among four of Rwanda's key foreign currency machines namely tourism, minerals, coffee and tea. Taking care of the commodity ensures that the country will get the best buyer and returns will trickle down to the farmer who needs to send children to school, buy medical insurance and at least save for tomorrow.

Such good initiatives that promote economic and social benefits should be widespread across the region.
