Newport man charged with possessing more than 800 child pornography imagesSep 02, 2011 (The Knoxville News-Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Newport man was charged with one count of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor after a months-long investigation, police said today. The Morristown Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, with the help of the Newport Police Department, arrested 30-year-old James Holbrook at his home on Ocoee Street in Newport after a search of his computer turned up 321 images and six videos of child pornography on his computer, according to a statement issued by Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt. Nearly 500 additional images of child pornography were found on 11 DVDs also confiscated by authorities during the arrest, Overholt said. Holbrook first came under probe by the Morristown unit, although he lives in Newport. The release did not explain how the Morristown unit became aware of Holbrook as a child pornography suspect. "I am proud of the work our investigator has done and of the partnerships we have developed. Being a part of the Tennessee Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force allows us to reach beyond our jurisdiction to help investigate and prosecute these types of crimes," Overholt said. Holbrook remains in Cocke County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 bond, said Overholt. ___ (c)2011 the Knoxville News-Sentinel (Knoxville, Tenn.)
