Boca Raton man arrested in child pornography case

Sep 02, 2011 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Bond was set at $530,000 on Friday for a 50-year-old Boca Raton man accused of possessing and transmitting child pornography, according to Palm Beach County State Attorney Michael McAuliffe.

When an undercover detective made contact with suspect Claudio Vidal through a peer to peer Internet network, the investigator was able to download three child porn videos that Vidal made available in mid-August, according to the arrest report.

When the detective served a search warrant at Vidal's Boca Raton address on Thursday, Vidal was in the process of downloading a child pornography video, the report stated.

During questioning, Vidal admitted to downloading "thousands of videos" but said he "erased" any that contained child pornography because he knew they were illegal. Another detective did a quick preview of Vidal's two desktop computers and found at least 300 child porn images and videos, investigators said.

The computers were seized and Vidal was arrested.

Bond was set at $10,000 for each of 50 images and videos confiscated and for the three child porn videos the undercover detective downloaded, court records stated.

If or when Vidal posts bond, he must remain under house arrest with no access to computers or the Internet, no contact with children and he must surrender his passport, prosecutors said.
