Water Utility Aqua Virginia Lifts Several Boil Water Advisories for Customers East of I-95 Affected by Hurricane Irene

ROCKVILLE, Va. --(Business Wire)--

Aqua Virginia, Inc. (Aqua) has lifted most of the precautionary boil water advisories issued in the wake of Hurricane Irene along the east side of the I-95 Northeast Corridor. Advisories were issued for 46 systems as a precaution when pressure was lost due to power outages.

Aqua mobilized crews and portable generators to restore water service before electric power was restored in many communities. However, even a short term loss of pressure required issuance of precautionary boil water advisories until testing on water samples could be completed to clear the systems.

Six systems remain on boil advisories (expected to be lifted tomorrow, September 3, 2011).

County   System Name   PWS ID#
Lancaster   Lancaster Shores   VA4103710
    Town of Lively   VA4103800
Richmond   Bunker Hill   VA4159175
    School House Meadows   VA4159800
Westmoreland   Bushfield   VA4193200
    Nomini Bay   VA4193675

Aqua will post updates to the list of precautionary boil water advisories on their website at www.aquaamerica.com. Click on the Virginia home page.

Customers also can call Aqua customer service toll-free at 877.987.2782.

Customers who remain on boil water advisories should boil tap water used for cooking or other purposes where water might be ingested. This would include water used for drinking, brushing teeth, cooking or making ice. Customers can safely consume water after bringing it to a hard boil for one to two minutes, then letting it cool. It is better that young infants and pregnant women use bottled or stored water instead of boiled tap water whenever possible for drinking and cooking.
