El Paso Area CBP Personnel Featured In National Geographic Channel's "Border Wars" Season Premiere This Weekend


Sep 02, 2011 (DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY DOCUMENTS AND PUBLICATIONS/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- (Wednesday, August 31, 2011) El Paso, TX -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel working in El Paso, Texas and New Mexico will take center stage as the new season of National Geographic's "Border Wars" premieres on Sunday, September 4. National Geographic crews spent five weeks in the El Paso area earlier this year shadowing CBP officers, Border Patrol agents, and Air & Marine personnel to document the work they perform supporting the CBP mission. From early in the morning until late into the night the National Geographic crews were with CBP to film interesting stories from start to finish.

The National Geographic film crew spent five weeks in the El Paso area during January and February documenting the work of CBP.

The season premiere episode of "Border Wars" is slated to air locally at 8 p.m. and again at 11 p.m. on Time Warner Cable channel 74; Direct TV channel 276; AT&T U-verse channel 265/1265; and Dish Network channels 186/886. The show will also air again on Wednesday, September 7. Check your local listings for specific program information.


Season three of the critically acclaimed program begins with an El Paso based episode titled "Cocaine Sting". The National Geographic summary of the episode states "along the El Paso-Juarez border, agents and officers of the Department of Homeland Security investigate a young couple who are suspected human smugglers, uncover a floor of marijuana in an SUV while DEA agents target a high-level cocaine supplier in a drug sting. Port officers encounter a Mexican woman driving the remains of a man killed in Juarez, a victim of drug-related violence, across the border in order to provide a safe funeral at which the family can grieve". ( National Geographic website) Immediately before the season premiere episode National Geographic will air a special edition of "Border Wars" titled "Seize and Destroy" that follows the path of narcotics, cars and weapons seized by CBP as they are taken out of the hands of criminals and ultimately destroyed.
