BRIEF: School Board seeks public input in search for superintendent

Sep 02, 2011 (Anchorage Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Anchorage School Board is looking for help in the nationwide search to replace departing Superintendent Carol Comeau.

Comeau is expected to retire June 30, 2012. The school board has written draft guidelines or criteria for what the district is looking for in a replacement, and is asking for feedback online and at a public hearing beginning 9 a.m. Sept. 10.

The public meeting will be held at the district headquarters, 5530 E Northern Lights Boulevard and broadcast live on Channel 14.

A survey asking people to describe what attributes are most important in a superintendent is available online at www.asdk12.org/school_board/superintendent_search.

"We're hoping to post the job at the end of September," said board president Gretchen Guess.

The board's plan is to review applications in October and November and publicly announce finalists in December.

Guess hopes to see the new superintendent selected in January.
