Rhode Island School of Design Keeps Students Safe with Amcom Software's Enhanced 911 SolutionMINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)-- Amcom Software, Inc. today announced that Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is relying on Amcom's enhanced 911 (E911) solution to help direct emergency and onsite responders to a 911 caller's precise location on the 40-building campus. The Amcom solution integrates with the phone system of the Providence-based college and has helped improve the safety of students, staff, and visitors. This is made possible by ensuring the local 911 call center receives accurate information about where 911 calls originate, including the building, floor, and room number. When a 911 call is placed from a campus phone, the 911 call center receives the exact location of the caller, allowing emergency personnel to be dispatched to the correct place. Amcom Software's E911 solution also notifies RISD's Public Safety Department and certain onsite staff members when a 911 call is made. In this way, RISD security personnel can meet first responders at the scene and help manage the situation. "Being an art school means having students work on projects in various buildings and studios throughout the campus at all hours of the day and night," said Judy Tanzi, Manager of Telecommunications, Rhode Island School of Design. "Implemeting the Amcom E911 solution has provided a greater sense of security in knowing that first responders are able to reach 911 callers more quickly, no matter when calls occur or where the caller is located on campus." "Amcom's enhanced 911 solution is an excellent fit with Rhode Island School of Design's dedication to providing everyone on campus a safe environment," said Chris Heim, President, Amcom Software. "An increasing number of colleges and universities are evaluating their safety procedures and realizing enhanced 911 is essential to effective campus-wide emergency response."
