Aug 30, 2011 (Columbus Telegram - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Girls state golf volunteers needed COLUMBUS -- The Organizing Committee of the Nebraska Girls Class C State Golf Tournament, to be held Oct. 10-11 at Quail Run Golf Course, is seeking volunteers from the community to assist with the tournament.

The committee is in need of approximately 50 volunteers each day to help as scoring monitors, forecaddies, drive range monitors, escorts, scoreboard personnel and real-time scorers. Score monitor volunteer forms are available at any of the four golf courses in Columbus and at the Chamber of Commerce office, and are sent directly to the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) office.

Anyone interested in helping with the tournament, other than as a scoring monitor, should contact Deb Loseke at the Convention and Visitors Bureau at (402) 564-2769 or Al Niedbalski at (402) 564-3258.


Scotus burger bash set for Friday COLUMBUS -- The Scotus Central Catholic Shamrock Club is sponsoring a burger bash during the Scotus Central Catholic-David City Aquinas football game Friday at the south end of Pawnee Park's Memorial Stadium.

Burgers, brats, chips and beverages will be available from 5:45 p.m. through halftime of the game.

Time Warner to air CHS, SCC games LINCOLN -- Time Warner Cable announced its 2011 high school football broadcast schedule Thursday, and Columbus High and Scotus Central Catholic will both have games featured.

The Discoverers' Sept. 9 game at Fremont will be available on Nebraska On Demand beginning Sept. 13, while the Shamrocks' Oct. 13 game at David City will be available beginning Oct. 18.

Nebraska On Demand airs tape-delayed games on channel 411 at no additional cost to TWC digital cable customers. To view the high school football broadcasts, customers need to go to channel 411 and then to the "Sports" category. Using their digital remote control, viewers can find the "HS Football" tab and select the game.

CHS FB to host CAMFO Night COLUMBUS -- Columbus High School Activities Coordinator John Krogstrand, along with Columbus Area Midget Football Organization (CAMFO) Director Jeff Moore, recently announced the first annual CAMFO Night.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in conjunction with the Discoverers' football game against Lincoln Northeast at Pawnee Park's Memorial Stadium.

CHS will grant free admission to any current CAMFO midget football player who wears their jersey to the game when accompanied by one paid-admission adult. Special drawings and prizes will be available to CAMFO players and coaches in attendance.

CHS also will be honoring its senior football players and cheerleaders prior to the game. The game will mark the final regular season contest for Columbus High on the natural grass surface at Pawnee Park.

Lakeview golf tournament set COLUMBUS -- The 16th annual Lakeview Foundation golf tournament is set for noon Sept. 11 at Quail Run Golf Course.

The tournament is a four-person scramble, and entry fees are $50 per person or $200 per team. The fee includes 18 holes of golf and cart rental.

All golfers are welcome, as it is not a requirement to be a Lakeview alumnus, student or patron to play.

Mulligans may be purchased. Trophies will be awarded to the first two places in the championship flight and first flight.

Entry forms are due by Sept. 3 to: Golf Tournament, Lakeview Community Schools, 3744 83rd Street, Columbus, NE 68601. Registrations may also be e-mailed to [email protected] .
