Travelers Catastrophe Responders Help with Hurricane Irene Recovery

Now that Hurricane Irene has passed, specially trained insurance claim professionals and Mobile Claim Offices from Travelers are moving into the hardest hit areas to help customers begin to recover from the storm. Travelers respectfully reminds all individuals and business owners to stay safe in the hurricane's aftermath.

"Despite the fact that Hurricane Irene took a path where hurricanes have not recently tracked, we positioned our resources in advance of the storm so that we were able to quickly reach customers who experienced damage to their property and help them through the recovery process," said Patrick Gee, Senior Vice President, Claim for Travelers. "We continue to monitor all aspects of Irene's aftermath in our National Catastrophe Management Center in order to augment resources wherever our customers need us."

Travelers Mobile Claim Offices -- fully self-contained claim offices on wheels -- have been deployed to Connecticut, Long Island, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia to serve as a resource for customers who need assistance. These mobile offices provide another way for affected customers to report their insurance claim, learn about next steps, access third-party disaster resources, or simply access Travelers' communications network. Travelers reminds individuals who have experienced damage to their home, car or business to make sure everyone is safe, then promptly report the claim. Claims can be reported by calling the numbers below, visiting a Mobile Claim Office, or reporting it online as follows:

Now that the weather has cleared, Travelers is reminding individuals to stay safe with the following tips:

• Stay tuned to the radio or television. If you had to evacuate, return home only after authorities advise it is safe to do so.
• Avoid downed power lines.
• Beware of and check for gas leaks or electrical system damage.
• Make temporary repairs as necessary.
• Promptly report any loss to Travelers using the toll-free claim reporting number.

Background on Mobile Claim Offices
These first-in-the-industry vehicles were developed as a result of lessons learned from Hurricane Andrew, which devastated parts of Florida in 1992. They are staffed by catastrophe response team members and equipped with everything required to process claims in the midst of a disaster, such as onboard computers and databases, printers, photocopiers, cell phones, and fax machines. Each vehicle has its own generator, so they can operate in places without electricity and can process claims through wireless or satellite connectivity if land lines are not available.
