Acer to Release Ultrabook Laptop in Sep

BEIJING, Aug 26, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- J.T. Wang, chairman of Acer Inc. (TPE: 2353), recently said that his company would release Ultrabook laptops in September with the minimum price being at USD 799.

He added that tablet PC market would cool down. Some PC makers agree with him and think tablet PC is mainly used for entertainment while laptop for work and study. Therefore, tablet PC shipment will stop growing when reaching certain level.

Meanwhile, many computer makers also plan to launch their own Ultrabook in the near future including ASUS TeK Computer Inc. (TPE: 2357) and Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL).

Jim Wong, President of Acer, points out that although shipment of the Ultrabook laptops took only a fraction of total laptop shipment, it will weigh roughly 25% to 35% of the total.

As for the Windows 8 operating system to be released by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT), the president believes the system will have strong impact on laptop shipment rather than tablet PC. Besides, brand manufacturers will also benefit from the system.
