SmarTrend Midday Market Recap -- August 25, 2011 (DJI,INX,IXIC)Aug 25, 2011 (SmarTrend(R) Market Commentary via COMTEX) -- Last updated August 25, 2011: 12:45 PM ET --- The major U.S. equity indices are trading lower Thursday following a report on jobless claims and ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's speech in the morning. The Labor Department reported that U.S. jobless benefits rose by 5,000 to 417,000 in the week ending August 20. The four-week moving average increased to 407,500 last week. In corporate news, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares are down 1.42% at $370.83 a day after CEO Steve Jobs announced his resignation. Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) shares are trading 7.80% higher at $7.54 after Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) announced plans to invest $5 billion in the company. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) is trading 1.55% lower at 11,144.90, the S&P500 (INX) is trading 1.51% lower at 1,159.83, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) is trading 1.73% lower at 2,425.23.
