: SFW delivers IT for Sport England's Inspired Facilities Fund

Aug 25, 2011 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- SFW has delivered the software to manage grant applications under Sport England's Inspired Facilities funding programme.

The Inspired Facilities programme(http://inspiredfacilities.sportengland.org/) is planned to distribute grants from a 50 million National Lottery fund to improve up to a thousand local sports clubs and facilities. The fund was launched in July by the Minister for Sport and the Olympics, Hugh Robertson MP.

Investment will be available to improve tired facilities that can be unattractive to sports participants, expensive to run and difficult to maintain. There will also be money available to convert existing buildings into venues that are suitable for sport.

In order to open the Inspired Facilities funding programme, Sport England required some development and configuration work to the funding application system previously developed by SFW.

The system delivered by SFW makes the process as simple as possible because applications are made online. The database then facilitates processes within Sport England to review, check and analyse applications before a final decision on funding is reached.

The programme has been designed to be as simple and accessible as possible for potential applicants, making it attractive to community groups and sports clubs who may not have received public funding before.

The website is built on .NET technology and supported by an SQL database. It allows members of the public to make applications and upload supporting documents, and it helps to manage the workflow within Sport England to reach funding decisions efficiently.

Sport England's Chief Executive, Jennie Price, said: "I hope many of the groups who benefit from Inspired Facilities will be receiving Lottery funding for the first time. We have worked hard to simplify the application process, with a shorter form and a catalogue of ready-made options to choose from." Steve Elliot, Director of SFW, has said: "We are delighted that the flexibility of our original system has enabled SFW to continue to do great work with Sports England. The fundamental software can be readily modified and extended in order to suit a variety of different projects." ENDS.
