Cross vying to audition for 'The Voice'

Aug 23, 2011 (Norwalk Reflector - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- With your help, Norwalk resident Myriah Cross could audition live for the television show "The Voice." Cross, a 2006 New London High School graduate, has made it to the top 10 out of an original pool of 100 in the competition "The Voice: Cleveland Votes." "The Voice" is a vocal competition series modeled after Holland's top-rated vocal talent discovery show. "The Voice" features four musician coaches: Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

On Monday night, the 10 remaining contestants performed for videos to be uploaded to www.wkyc.com. The public will choose the three finalists, who will travel to Los Angeles for live auditions.

Cross' selections are a different take on the familiar baseball song "Take Me Out To the Ballgame" and "I'm the Only One" by Melissa Etheridge.

Cross, who is no stranger to performing, said she felt ecstatic to make it to the top 10. "I almost cried a little bit," she said, noting that cameras will be "everywhere" and she has met WKYC personalities. "It's an experience I'll never forget," Cross said. She said her dream is to land a career in music. She has been performing since the eighth grade and tried out for American Idol. She won in her age category in Firelands Idol in 2008 and 2009, earning the following accolades from Towne and Country Players Executive Director Ronn Koerper: "What a showstopper. She should be going professional." To vote for Cross or another candidate, visit www.wkyc.com/thevoice.
