FuseSource Names Paul Harsha as Vice President of EngineeringBEDFORD, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- FuseSource Corp., leaders in open source integration and messaging, today named Paul Harsha, a veteran technology executive, software developer and teacher as the company's first vice president of engineering. Harsha will oversee FuseSource's growing product roadmap, including development, documentation and quality assurance efforts - ensuring that they continue to result in solutions that empower enterprises to break vendor lock in, lower costs and enable developers and architects to work more effectively. "Paul has proven time and time again his ability to lead engineering teams that take best-of-breed enterprise-class products from prototype to production and is known as a leading authority on integration and messaging, enterprise infrastructure and distributed computing," said Rob Davies, CTO of FuseSource and co-founder of Apache ServiceMix, Camel and ActiveMQ projects. "As FuseSource continues to grow rapidly, Paul's expertise will help ensure that we continue to provide enterprises with high quality offerings that are easy to use, supportable and reflect the latest innovations in integration and messaging." Harsha has more than 25 years of experience in software development. Before joining FuseSource, he served as the CTO at Online Buddies, a social media company, and at eTurms, LLC - a provider of e-commerce platforms and sales solutions. As the vice president of engineering at DataSynapse, a company acquired by TIBCO, Harsha led the development of infrastructure software, including award-winning technology for data centers in the financial and telecommunications industries. And at Avaki Corporation, acquired by Sybase (News - Alert), he oversaw the creation of enterprise integration software for the pharmaceutical and banking industries as director of engineering. Harsha also serves as a head teaching fellow at Harvard University, where he provides instruction on the advanced use of Java technology for ditributed computing environments. He will work out of FuseSource's headquarters in Bedford, Mass. and will report directly to Davies. "For most enterprises the shifts we are seeing, including cloud computing and the demand for nearly instantaneous access to information, necessitate a new focus on integration and messaging," said Harsha. "FuseSource has a proven track record helping many of the world's best known companies address this reality without locking themselves into proprietary systems that aren't sustainable. I look forward to contributing to what I believe to be the next big chapter in open source: integration and messaging." Harsha joins an already extensive team of open source integration and messaging leaders. No other company employs more founders or committers to Apache Software Foundation integration and messaging projects. "Paul is ideally qualified to manage our growing engineering operation and to transform the innovation our employees contribute to Apache projects into enterprise-class solutions," said Larry Alston, president of FuseSource. "Our customers know that when they subscribe to a FuseSource™ distribution they are getting the best of both worlds - proven open source integration and messaging technology and the stringent service level agreements and resources enterprises need." FuseSource also announced the formation of an Office of the CTO, also reporting directly to Davies. Members of the office will rotate periodically to focus on new features and functionality made possible by the company's development efforts. Initial members include Claus Ibsen, principal software engineer at FuseSource and co-author of Camel in Action; Guillaume Nodet, software architect at FuseSource and well-known committer to Apache projects; and James Strachan - software fellow at FuseSource, creator of the programming language Groovy and a co-founder of Apache projects ActiveMQ, Camel and ServiceMix.
