General Services Authorized to Reduce State Government's Property FootprintSACRAMENTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- The California Department of General Services announced today that Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. has signed legislation (AB 1272) authorizing DGS (News - Alert) to dispose of excess state-owned property. "This bill allows DGS to follow the governor's direction to properly manage and, where fiscally prudent, reduce the state government property footprint," said DGS Director Fred Klass. "Selling surplus state properties will help pay down Economic Recovery Bonds, possibly return these properties to local tax rolls, and relieve the state of future liabilities and the expense of maintaining the property."
