2 O.C. companies make fastest growth list [The Orange County Register, Santa Ana, Calif.]


(Orange County Register (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 22--Two Orange County companies have made the fastest growth list among the 2011 Fortune 500 of the nation's largest corporations.

The business publication Fortune ranks companies according to their annual revenues. Six Orange County companies are on the latest list. The publication also breaks out sub-lists of fastest growing in earnings per share, most profitable and other categories.

Chipmaker Broadcom Corp. in Irvine ranks fourth among the fastest growing. Its revenues rank 343 on the Fortune 500 list. Broadcom's 2010 earnings per share grew 1,431%.

Western Digital Corp. in Lake Forest, which designs and makes computer hard drives, ranks 33rd on the fastest growing list with 2010 earnings per share of 185%. Western Digital ranks 251 on the Fortune 500.


The other Orange County companies on the 2011 Fortune 500 are Ingram Micro, Spectrum Group International, Pacific Life and Allergan.

Usually, the smaller companies are more likely to score higher growth. The top three on the 2011 list are Autoliv (automotive parts), 329th overall with 5,225% earnings-per-share growth; Nash-Finch (food wholesaler), 449th, 1,738%; and Kroger (grocery stores), 25th; 1,482%.

In 2008, Orange County had four companies on the fastest growth list, in 2009, none, and in 2010, two (Multi-Fineline Electronix and Corinthian Colleges).
