Are you ready for football?Aug 19, 2011 (Dothan Eagle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Ready for the start of high school and college football? I am ready as I will ever be. Each year, Whitney and Regina spend their Friday nights filming, editing and posting highlights from area high school football games and halftime shows. This year, I'll be joining them. While watching football isn't my idea of a good time, I am excited to be working on Friday night football because of our readers. I get to participate in a great project that gives Eagle readers a big dose of what they want -- FOOTBALL! There's something exciting about all the team spirit and excitement that people have for high school football in the Wiregrass. We've started the prep work as the season kicks off. There's a lot that goes into covering high school Friday nights. The sports department spreads across the region covering high school games. Then, they crank out those stories in record time while the video staff edits video and updates the website. There's a crowd in the newsroom until 1 a.m. on most Friday nights. During the week, sports editor Jon Johnson and his team of reporters (Ken, David and Drew) participate in two video projects: "The Huddle" and "Fearless Forecasters." In "The Huddle," they discuss upcoming games for prep teams, as well as Auburn, Troy, Alabama. In "Fearless Forecasters," each reporter has 15 seconds to pick a winner for both college and prep games and explain why. They keep a tally of who has the best picks all season and declare a winner at the end. It's actually pretty funny. I don't even know/care who wins/loses, but the sports crew always has a good time and it's fun to watch them. This year we want to bring in guests to participate in our Fearless Forecasters videos. So if you love football or know someone who does, send us a note to [email protected]. Tell us why we should pick you. Keep your eyes peeled next week as we kick off our videos.
