Clothing giveaway in Yadkinville on SaturdayAug 17, 2011 (The Yadkin Ripple - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Salvation Army is having a free clothing give-away event for people who live in Yadkin County. The event will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 in the fellowship hall of the Yadkinville United Methodist Church, 204 West Main Street, Yadkinville. The give-away is open to anyone who lives in Yadkin County. The clothing will be available on a first come, first served basis. There will be a limit of three to five articles of clothing for each member of a household. Volunteers from the community will be helping with the event. This will be the second clothing give-away that The Salvation Army has sponsored in Yadkinville. The first event, held in February, provided clothing to more than 200 people. The Salvation Army provides emergency financial assistance for rent, mortgages and utilities to people living in Yadkin County. Last year The Salvation Army helped more than 360 people in Yadkin County with emergency assistance. The Salvation Army is also the primary provider of Christmas assistance to Yadkin County residents. This past Christmas, more than 800 children received toys and more than 350 families were provided food boxes for the holidays. The Salvation Army is a participating member of the Yadkin County United Fund. "The free clothing give-away is another opportunity for The Salvation Army to reach out to the community", said Major Kent Davis, Area Commander for The Salvation Army. "We hope this clothing will help families as students get ready to head back to school."
