adidas to Sponsor First 26 High School Teams Registering for Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay

AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)--

Today, adidas and the Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay officially announced the inaugural adidas High School Challenge (HSC). This invitational race on September 25, 2011 takes place as part of the Relay, the largest fundraiser for Junior Achievement of Central Texas. Registration for the adidas HSC opens today on the Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay registration site for high school runners. The first 26 high school teams that sign up for the race using "adidashsc" in the promo code box receive complimentary race entries, racing singlets, technical training t-shirts and footwear provided by adidas in honor of the 26.2 miles covered in a traditional marathon.

The adidas HSC is open to high school athletes nationwide, competing as all-female or all-male teams, and the runners in each team must all attend the same high school. High schools can register up to two teams (two boys teams; two girls teams; or one boy and one girl team). The winning team in each category takes home the coveted adidas HSC Cup and all the pride that goes with it. Rogue Running, a local adidas distributor, will fit and equip the 26 adidas teams with their footwear and apparel prior to the race.

These teams can also access the adidas HSC tent on race day as a place to prepare and recover from their race. The adidas HSC runners follow the same course as the Relay with a common exchange point at Auditorium Shores, and legs run in the following order: 12K, 10K, 10K, 5K and 5K.

"Austin is one of the fittest towns out there and we're excited to support the city's up and coming running youth," said Mikal Peveto, head of running at adidas America. "Not only is this race a perfect opportunity for high school teams to jump-start their cross country season or do something fun with their friends, but the best part is that all the money raised for the event goes right back to supporting students like these with programs from Junior Achievement."

Junior Achievemen of Central Texas, a non-profit organization, holds the Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay each year to raise awareness and funds for its local youth financial literacy program. All proceeds from the 2011 Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay benefit Junior Achievement of Central Texas, providing educational resources to teach students about personal finance and economics of businesses through local business and community volunteers that meet with over 16,000 area students each year.

The Relay is Junior Achievement's largest annual fundraiser and one of the country's top Relay events.

"The adidas HSC is right in step with the roots of how this race originated: helping Central Texans stay fiscally and physically fit," said Dave Swincher, race director and president of Junior Achievement of Central Texas. "I hope to see lots of folks out there cheering on and competing with these students and giving old guys like me a run for my money!"

This year, Junior Achievement is encouraging each relay team to raise $500, the cost it takes to bring JA into each classroom. Fund raising runners will be entered to win prizes from generous sponsors like American Airlines and Yeti Coolers. If you're interested in donating to Junior Achievement, visit jacentex.org/donate.
