Swipe it with Nokia N9 [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NOKIA has decided to keep things simple with the N9, its latest all-screen smartphone. While previous models have home key buttons to switch between active applications, N9 does it with a mere swipe.

According to Nokia (M) Sdn Bhd's head of product management markets, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei Glen Cha, the N9 is also easier to navigate with just three home views of the user interface.

"This gives users fast access to the most important things they normally do with a phone that is using apps, staying up-to-date with notifications and social networks, and switching between activities," he says.

The candy bar N9 is based on the MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan operating system and boasts a 3.9-inch AMOLED touchscreen. It is powered by a 1GHz processor for multi-tasking activities and faster Web surfing.

Cha says the N9 is made from a single piece of polycarbonate to give it a sturdy, light and robust feel. The body is paired with a curved scratch-resistant gorilla-glass screen.

"The polycarbonate chassis is meant to give superior antenna performance for better reception and voice quality, and fewer dropped calls," he added.

The N9 comes with an eight-megapixel Carl Zeiss auto-focus camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a dual-LED flash. There are also a free GPS maps for up to 80 countries, 16:9 format screen and Dolby@Digital Plus decoding for better surround sound. A wireless technology called Near Field Communication allows users to easily share images and videos between devices by touching them together.

Nokia will offer the N9 in two storage versions. The 16GB version is available in black, cyan and magenta, while the 64GB will only come in black.

The phone is expected to be available later this month at Nokia authorised stores and through telco tie-up schemes.
