Halliburton plans public meeting [The Duncan Banner, Okla.](Duncan Banner (OK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 14--DUNCAN -- Fewer than 50 percent of private water wells being tested for perchlorate contamination are showing up positive, according to representatives of Halliburton Energy Services and the company doing the testing in the Osage Road and N. Forth Street area of Duncan. "We now have samples of more than 200 wells and we've found perchlorate about 92," Jim Prestidge, Halliburton's Global Vice President of Health, Safety and Environment, said on Thursday. "The highest concentrations being found are (wells) immediately adjacent to the (Halliburton) property at Fifth & Osage." Prestidge and representatives of Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality will be presenting other updates Wednesday, when a public meeting is held at 6 p.m., at Simmons Center. It is the second public meeting organized by Halliburton since the perchlorate contamination situation was revealed in early July. SAIC is the firm conducting the perchlorate testing, while the Oklahoma DEQ is monitoring the project. Recently, the Duncan City Council approved a contract with Halliburton to begin a project of installing both temporary and permanent waterlines to service the Osage Road and N. Fifth Street Area. Rural Water District No. 5 has already begun hooking up temporary waterlines for some residents in the area. City officials will be present at the public meeting to discuss the waterline project.. ___ To see more of The Duncan Banner, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.duncanbanner.com.
