BRIEF: Cisco layoffs include 79 jobs in regionAug 14, 2011 (The Sacramento Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The mass layoffs at Cisco Systems Inc. claimed 79 jobs in the Sacramento area. The tech giant plans to eliminate 79 jobs at its Rancho Cordova site effective next Friday, according to filings with the state Employment Development Department. Cisco, a leading maker of computer networking equipment, announced last month that it was eliminating 6,500 jobs worldwide, or about 9 percent of its workforce. On Wednesday it reported a 36 percent drop in quarterly profits, although revenue grew 3 percent. A Cisco spokesman declined to comment on the layoffs in Rancho Cordova, except to say the company will continue to employ workers there.
