Former CodeBaby exec returns as CEOAug 11, 2011 (The Gazette - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Dennis McGuire has returned to Colorado Springs-based CodeBaby Corp. as CEO just 13 months after leaving the company, where he briefly served as chief operating officer. McGuire replaces Patrick Bultema, who left the company in mid-June in a mutual decision with the company's board. CodeBaby has been operated for the past two months by co-CEOs Matt Filios, who replaced McGuire as chief operating officer, and Tony DeLollis, the company's chief technology officer. Privately held CodeBaby develops digital characters for sales, electronic learning and customer service. The company, started and still majority owned by Canadian computer game entrepreneurs Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, said McGuire was selected after an "aggressive" search. "I am excited to work in a progressive environment that serves as a visionary voice in digital customer engagement," McGuire said in a press release issued Thursday. "My previous experience with CodeBaby has enabled me to become very familiar with the brand and its mission. So my immediate goal will be to continue building on the things we do best, delivering top-of-the-line products and services that enable online engagement and ultimately (sales) conversion. It is also my charge to refine our focus on enterprise growth opportunities." CodeBaby employs about 40 in the Springs, Canada and the San Francisco area. The company has about 300 business and government customers. Most are on CodeBaby's e-learning side, which creates digital characters for companies' internal use, such as employee training; others use the characters for their publicly accessible websites. Customers include the city of Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Community College, Net Nanny and Provident Lending Corp. While at CodeBaby during the first half of 2010, McGuire supervised all of the company's "customer-facing" operations, including marketing, sales, service and support. Before that, he was a consultant for 1 1/2 years after spending two years as vice president of Star B2B, a startup unit of advertising giant Omnicom Group. He also was vice president and general manager at Protocol Marketing and a founding partner and general manager at Saligent. He also has held executive posts at Current and United Technologies. -- Call the writer at 636-0234. To see more of The Gazette, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.gazette.com.
