Filing begins for town, city councilAug 10, 2011 (Fort Mill Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- FORT MILL TOWNSHIP -- Filing for municipal offices began today at 8 a.m. Both Tega Cay and Fort Mill have elected offices up for grabs. In Fort Mill, the town's top spot is up for reelection. Mayor Danny Funderburk said that he will seek the position for a second term. "I feel like we've made excellent progress," Funderburk said. 'We've had excellent progress in these challenging economic times and I'm looking forward to continuing that for another four years." Fort Mill Town Councilmen Ken Starnes, Ronald Helms and Tom Adams also have seats that expire this year. In the City of Tega Cay, the terms of Councilmen John Dervay and Chris Landvik-Larsen end this year as well. Dervay said he will run for re-election, but isn't sure when he will be filing. "Right now we have to pass a budget and hire a city manager," Dervay said. "That's occupying most of my time." Dervay has served as a councilman in Tega Cay since 2006. He was defeated in a 2009 election, but regained his seat three months later during a special election held to fill a vacant spot on the council. Dervay is retired, but previously worked for the city as a code enforcement officer. Larsen was elected to the council in April to fill the time left on former Councilman Larry Harper's seat. Harper resigned in January, citing work obligations. Larsen declined to say whether or not he will run for re-election. "I guess we'll know by the end of filing," Larsen said. Candidates can file between 8 a.m. on Aug. 10 and 5 a.m. on Sept. 9. To file for a municipal office, visit the York County Registration and Elections Office. ID and proof of address are required. The Statement of Intention of Candidacy form and Statement of Economic Interest forms must submitted. Those forms are available from the State Ethics Commission at ethics.sc.gov.
