Police: Man intended to tie up, rape woman after breaking into west Erie homeAug 12, 2011 (Erie Times-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Erie police said a man intended to tie up and rape a woman when he broke into her westside home Wednesday morning. The woman managed to scare off the intruder and was not injured in the incident, police said Thursday. Bernard J. Przybyszewski, 26, who is listed as homeless, was taken into police custody Wednesday shortly before 8 a.m. in the 600 block of West Eighth Street, minutes after he confronted the woman in her home, police said. Przybyszewski was placed in the Erie County Prison on $100,000 bond Thursday after his arraignment before Erie 4th Ward District Judge Tom Robie on charges of rape, burglary and unlawful restraint. Police accused Przybyszewski of entering the residence in the 600 block of West Eighth Street through a window after he initially knocked on the door and spoke to a woman there. Police said the woman confronted Przybyszewski and scared him off. She was not harmed in the incident, police said. Police learned through interviews that Przybyszewski intended to rape the woman after tying her up, Erie police Lt. Kirk Werner said Thursday. Przybyszewski had two pieces of speaker wire and a silver belt on him, and he planned to use those items to tie up the woman, according to the criminal complaint.
