Step-by-step guide to becoming a uni student [Gloucestershire Echo (England)]

(Gloucestershire Echo (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PROSPECTIVE students in Gloucestershire are being offered a helping hand with their university applications via a mobile phone app.

With thousands of students set to find out their A-level results next week, those still making applications for university can download a step-by-step guide to filling in the Ucas form, which many youngsters find taxing.

The Cheltenham-based Ucs as Connect has relaunched its website as a one-stop-shop for anyone thinking about pursuing higher education.

And after notching up more than 18,000 visitors across 100 different countries, the service is now accessible via a free app on Android, Apple and Nokia phones. The technology was developed by software firm Rippleffect specifically for Ucas, which is based on Evesham Road.

Kirstie Buchanan, of Rippleffect, who developed the app, said it offered applicants 'Ucas in their pockets'. The app provides top tips, frequently asked questions and video guides, as well as access to Ucas' interactive search tool. Feedback has been positive with 77 per cent of the visitors rated the You-Tube videos as "extremely useful".

The clips give advice on, for example, how to navigate your way through clearing. Visit the website at ucasconnect.
