Museum lining up more actionAug 11, 2011 (Pauls Valley Daily Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- PAULS VALLEY, Oklahoma -- With its arts and reading program wrapping up for the summer this week the Toy and Action Figure Museum has already lined up even more activities. This next one will center around the one thing that can bring down Superman -- kryptonite. Museum Director Lisa Driskill said combining fun with a bit of information is the idea behind the event set for a couple of weekends from now. "We'll have a scavenger hunt here in the museum for all five kryptonite pieces," Driskill said. "It's fun but also an educational thing. We're trying to increase the educational value of our activities," she said. "With this one we'll provide information about kryptonite and what the different colors mean." The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. "I'm not sure about a Superman guest appearance because there's so much kryptonite," Driskill said with a smile. She also encourages kids attending the event, and even adults, to sign up for the new Rivet Fan Club. Rivet is the mascot and resident superhero for the museum in downtown Pauls Valley. His name stands for Robot -- Icon -- Visual -- Education -- Tool. The new fan club is designed to keep kids informed and get them more involved in the various activities held at the museum. "We're starting the Rivet Fan Club," she said. "With the fan club we want to get kids involved. "It will just be a fun thing to encourage kids to come to the museum and be a part of the activities here. You can also get lots of cool stuff when you join." Those signing up to be a fan club member will receive updates through the mail or e-mail on things going on at the museum. They will also get things like a ticket for free admission on their birthday, coloring sheets and just "fun stuff." "We'll come up with different ways to make them feel special," Driskill said.
