Eddie Money to perform at Square Fair

LIMA, Aug 05, 2011 (The Lima News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Ed Heads get ready. Eddie Money returns to Lima on Saturday to cap off Lima's annual Square Fair.

The rocker who topped the charts throughout the 1970s and '80s will bring some new music to fans, as well as the songs people come to hear, "Baby Hold On," "Take Me Home Tonight," and "Two Tickets to Paradise." "I read not too long ago that 'Two Tickets to Paradise' is a top song of the last 25 years. That amazes me. But really, when I made my records I tried to make sure that I wrote a couple of hits on every one of them," Money said in a phone interview with The Lima News.

Money, who is one of the hardest working guys on the oldies circuit today (which also includes the likes of Paul McCartney and Bob Seger), attributes much of his current success to the fact he is happy to do the necessary promotion to remind people of the music they rocked to growing up.

Money burst on the scene in the early 1970s, charting with "Baby Hold On." He continued through the 1980s writing and performing much of his own music, which continued to chart.

Struggles with drug addiction sidelined him for a while, before he charted again with "Take Me Home Tonight," a duet with Ronnie Spector.

These days, he tours heavily on the oldies circuit, but also promotes a cause dear to his heart: the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

"I wrote and recorded, 'One More Soldier Comes Home,' with all the money from that going to the fund. It's for the kids serving in our military in Iraq or Afghanistan. Whether you're in favor of the war or against the war, you need to think about those kids fighting and support them. My heart goes out to them. I know a lot of those young people and they're great kids. They could be in the working world right now with a job, but they're choosing to serve our country," Money said.

He's recorded the song, but is hoping to give it more play by enticing some current country stars to record it. "It's got sort of a country swing going for it, so we'll see." But for now, his concentration is on Saturday night in Lima.

"I love Lima. I've got a lot of friends here. The band sounds great so it should be a good show. It'll be a lot of fun," Money said.
