National Youths Services Scheme Gets New DirectorAug 08, 2011 (The Daily Observer/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Nuha Y. Jammeh has been appointed the new executive director of the National Youths Services Scheme (NYSS). The public relations officer of NYSS, Isatou Bitaye confirmed Jammeh's appointment to the Daily Observer. She described the new executive director as a seasoned educationist who served in various capacities in the country. Jammeh once served as principal of Ndow's Comprehensive Junior and Senior Secondary School. He holds a Master of Arts Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, United States of America, a B.A degree general in the subject areas of Geography, Sociology and Modern History from the Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He also obtained the Primary Teachers' Certificate from the then Yundum Teacher Training College. Mr Jammeh also pursued a Higher Teachers Certificate in Geography from the Advanced Teacher Training College, Winneba, Cape Coast University, Ghana. He taught for several years in various schools in the country and had also worked at the Regional Education Office, Curriculum Development Centre as Principal Curriculum Development Officer responsible for Social and Environmental Studies before taking a voluntary retirement in 1992 and became the headmaster of Kotu Senior Secondary School up to 1994. He lectured at the Gambia College after leaving Kotu SSS up to 1998 before finally proceeding to be a headmaster at Ndow's Comprehensive up to 2006. He has served as a consultant on Gender Studies for UNICEF and also participated in the development and production of the Gambia National Environmental Action Plan. Jammeh is a member of the National Council for Social Studies in the United States of America and also a member of African Social Studies Programme (ASSP). He has written several research books on Geographical, Sociological, Historical and Religious topics. |
