[August 08, 2011] S.Korea draws up master plan on national cyber security Tweet SEOUL, Aug 08, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- South Korean government on Monday announced a national cyber security master plan to respond cyber terrorist attacks. According to the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), a blueprint for establishing a system to defend cyberspace at a state-level has been developed through a joint effort among 15 government agencies. Cyberspace will be considered another operational domain like the nation's territories on land, air and sea that need a state- level defense system, it said. Under the master plan, the National Cyber Security Center, run by the National Intelligence Service, the country's spy agency, will serve as the control tower to coordinate efforts against cyber attacks among government agencies involving the KCC, the defense and home affairs ministries. The government agencies and private enterprises will be required to encrypt and backup important data, and install necessary softwares to prevent hacker attacks. According to the KCC, each government agencies involved in the master plan are deliberating detailed action plans for their respective duties, which are expected to be put in place by the end of this month.
