Setting a base

(Fleet Owner Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The xTablet T7000, a rugged tablet PC from MobileDemand, will serve as the base computer for PeopleNet's new Tablet in-cab PC. The T7000 offers the power of Intel processing and a full Microsoft Windows operating system in a portable handheld device. It has achieved IP65 and MIL-STD 810G certification, MobileDemand said.

“To gain a competitive advantage, firms are looking at systems such as the Tablet to meet the demand for faster workflow, improved cash flow and increased driver efficiency,” said Matt Voda, PeopleNet vice president of product management. “Some fleets are seeing the Tablet as an opportunity to replace their current technology with an open Windows 7-based platform that offers longevity and optional portability. Others see the Tablet's arrival as the right time to adopt technology for the first time. They are impressed with the built-in, time-saving features and the additional cost-saving efficiencies that integration with the back office offers,” Voda continues.

The Frost & Sullivan 2011 New Product Innovation Award was given to PeopleNet at this year's National Private Truck Council Annual Education Management Conference and Exhibition. The company's Tablet was recognized for revolutionizing driver efficiency and workflow management.

The Tablet runs all of PeopleNet's applications, including automatic vehicle location and vehicle management, eDriver Logs, in-cab navigation, automated messaging and speed monitoring. While it can be mounted in a truck cab, it can also be removed quickly to serve as a mobile computer that provides information on customer histories, view and change orders. It can also accept customer signatures to serve as proof of delivery or be used to photograph damaged goods to protect carriers from claims.

Other advantages of the Tablet system, according to PeopleNet, are the access to DVIRs to give maintenance managers visibility to potential problems and ensure driver compliance; WiFi connectivity for faster downloads and access to hot spots to save on communication costs; GPS; and support for in-cab printing.

“PeopleNet is just the kind of company we enjoy working with. It's taken our xTablet T7000, a best-in-class product in its own right, and layered on its dynamic application suite and value-added services to provide an industry leading and access to hot spots to save on communication costs; GPS; and support for in-cab printing.

“PeopleNet is just the kind of company we enjoy working with. It's taken our xTablet T7000, a best-in-class product in its own right, and layered on its dynamic application suite and value-added services to provide an industry-leading fleet management solution that improves performance, work flow, cash flow and gives its customers a competitive edge,” said Matt Miller, MobileDemand president. “Early sales success indicates that PeopleNet truly understands the needs of its market and develops systems to address them.” PeopleNet has also announced the next generation of its Blu in-cab computing system. The Blu.2 is a more efficient version of the onboard computing system and is 65% lighter as well as thinner. And it delivers 40% faster startup in cold weather.

According to CEO Ron Konezny, who made the announcement during the PeopleNet Canada Transportation Symposium, the new model uses the same platform as the existing Blu, so customers will be able to add Blu.2 to their current network. There is no reprogramming necessary, he said, because the software between the two units is nearly identical.

Driver Terminal customers can upgrade to the Blu.2 device while using their existing onboard computing and mounting options.

The Windows-based Blu.2 offers eDriver Logs in a grid display to provide full details of a driver's time. It also provides electronic forms that will help eliminate re-entry of information from customer's proprietary computer systems.
