Tar Heels receiver Jones says offense should be fine despite coaching changeAug 02, 2011 (Times-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- North Carolina receiver Dwight Jones said he was stunned last week when he was told of the firing of then Tar Heels coach Butch Davis. Jones said he was working out at Cummings High School when he got the news in a phone call. "I found out the day it happened," Jones said Monday night while back at his alma mater for another workout. "I really didn't understand what was going on. ... It was a shock. It was very surprising. I didn't think it was going to happen. But you've just got to move on now." The former Cavaliers star was selected to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference preseason team last week after catching 62 passes for 946 yards and four touchdowns as a junior. He said that, while jarring, the firing of Davis and the naming of his interim replacement, former defensive coordinator Everett Withers, likely won't throw off his expectations. "I really don't think it will affect the offense too much," Jones said."We've still got all our offensive coaches, the O-line and receivers coach. We've got (offensive coordinator John Shoop), so we've still got the person who's calling the plays. So I think everything should be fine." Jones will report to Chapel Hill on Thursday, a day before the Tar Heels' first practice. "I'm still ready to go, we've got a big season coming up," Jones said. "I think we're looking forward to doing big things." To see more of the Times-News, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.thetimesnews.com.
