School officials: Hard drive missing from Glenkirk Elementary SchoolJul 29, 2011 (News & Messenger - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- GAINESVILLE, Va. -- An external hard drive that may contain personal student information has gone missing from Glenkirk Elementary School, Prince William County school officials announced Thursday afternoon. Ken Blackstone, spokesman for the school division, said in a statement that the hard drive does not include Social Security Numbers, but includes various information such as students' names, addresses, the name of students' classroom teachers as well as grades and screening information for student services. The information is limited to students who attended the Gainesville school. Parents and guardians of each student are being notified via automated phone message and a letter from the school's principal, Lisa Gilkerson. Glenkirk Elementary office staff will be on-hand to answer phone calls, Blackstone said. After learning that the drive was missing, the PWCS Office of Risk Management and Security Services commenced an investigation. The Prince William County Police Department was also notified to determine whether the device may have been stolen.
