Principal takes special programs coordinator position [The Enterprise Ledger, Ala.]

(Enterprise Ledger (AL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 26--Kinston High School Principal Terry Weeks will now have a new position at the Coffee County School System office.

Weeks was approved as special programs coordinator for the school system Monday night by Coffee County Board of Education members.

Superintendent Don McPherson said, "After we had 17 applicants for the position apply, we believe Mr. Weeks will fill the position best. He'll also be working with the Career Tech program, the maintenance program and other things we'd like for him to carry on for the system." A job announcement seeking a new principal for Kinston Schools "will be posted statewide," McPherson said.

Following the retirement of Golda Donaldson, technology coordinator for the school system, Heatherly Smith was appointed by the board as the new technology integration facilitator.

Also approved for employment were Laura Ogle as a special education teacher at New Brockton Elementary School; Delana Wiggins as secretary/bookkeeper at New Brockton High School and Roxanne James as a part-time custodian at Zion Chapel School.

The salary schedule for Coffee County employees was also adopted by the board Monday night.

"We took off the transportation position and changed the technology facilitator position to 10 months," McPherson said. "This will save the county some money by doing this." Board members also approved sending out bid invitations for combi-ovens for Kinston and New Brockton schools.

"We'll be the only school system in Alabama that has all combi-ovens and they are at no cost to our system," McPherson said. "It's paid for completely with grant funds." When the new school year begins Aug. 8, McPherson said construction at New Brockton High School for additions to the lunchroom would not interfere with student lunches.

"We'll be able to feed our students, but the completion of everything at the school will be a long process," he said..
