Easy as one-two-3D

Jul 29, 2011 (Khaleej Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Get your 3D glasses ready. You could get hooked on this The moment I popped out this fortnight's star out of its box, my eyebrows raised. Not because I remembered I forgot my lunch box at home, but because in my hands lay something really unique for a technology segment today, really -- almost literally -- catching the eye of everyone.

A 3D camcorder. A Sony HDR-TD10 3D Handycam, to be specific. It's a hot-shot of a product that any geek would want to have (like me), and I'm lucky to be able to try it out.

So it was in my hands and I immediately forgot about the work I had to do on the KT Business desk. A colleague was the first star of the video I shot, as well as a victim because I filmed him while he was sleeping on his desk. Hasn't leaked out, bro. Don't worry! Anyway, you'll immediately notice two Sony G Lenses on the HDR-TD10, and, complemented by two Full HD sensors, you know you're ready for a shoot-out. Summing it up, you'll be able to record your precious moments in true 1920x1080 3D or Full HD 3D. This baby is so feature-packed that crunching out all the numbers will merit me a cut-your-story memo from the wknd. crew.

So I'll go to the stuff you'd really want to know: Switching back-and-forth from 2D to 3D and vice-versa is easy with a dedicated switch. This is critical, since it will allow you to record everything in 3D, and later on you can decide to playback in 2D or 3D. I know some of you are starting to think about where to get 3D editing software at this very moment...

Another reason you'll be smiling is the 3.5" Xtra Fine LCD touch display, it's 3D-ready, so you may do away with those funny-looking glasses. I have to complement its brightness; it's really superb thanks to Sony's TruBlack technology.

The only thing is, it's a bit heavy. But what the heck? Sony has a reputation, and I've always liked their products. And at Dh5,999, I guarantee you this: It's not the most expensive, so it's a viable option for 3D enthusiasts. And, being the naughty nerd I am, that's what makes me miss the HDR-TD10. I just feel so enthusiastic capturing my friends in their wackiest moments in Full HD 3D.

[email protected] EXTRA BYTE Cute, natural chic "Chic" is a term you won't hear from me often, because I often associate it with chick-lingo.

But this Byte will really merit chic from me, thanks to Packard Bell's new dot s netbook.

It doesn't matter whether it's River Black, Galaxy White, Mysterious Purple or Perfume Pink; this baby is sure to be a chic gizmo for the ladies.

Eight hours of battery life is a good deal, complemented by a 500GB hard disk, multi-in-1 card reader and Wi-Fi, all bundled in its one-inch thin, 1.2kg frame. Bluetooth 3.0 is optional.

And girls would probably smile with this: It has a Packard Bell Social Networks app, and you know what that means.

What's more, the dots will be a good companion for those who love photos and videos, with its pre-installed full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.

Girls just wanna have fun, was the catchy tune that Cyndi Lauper sung. Play it on the dot s to really have fun, girls.
