Ministry wants mobile operators to reduce prices [Trend News Agency, Baku, Azerbaijan]

(Trend News Agency (Baku, Azerbaijan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 29--After Azercell and Bakcell accept the approved rules for mutual relations between communication operators, they will be provided with a 3G services license, Azerbaijani Communication and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said on Friday.

"However, neither Azercell nor Bakcell are not in hurry to do it for some reason," he said.

The minister said the rules are simple. They have been approved by the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers in accordance with the law "On Telecommunications." In accordance with the rules, the operators' networks should be understandable for the Communications and IT Ministry, as the regulatory body.

A number portability system must also be introduced.

He said this system is applied in all developed countries. Number portability rules have already been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and registered by the Justice Ministry.

The third point indicated in the rules is the cost of inter-operator traffic.

"Now it is 0.05 manat. That is, today operators pay each other 0.05 every minute. This leads to an increase in the total value," Abbasov said.

He said the ministry has decided to reduce the cost of inter-operator traffic to 0.02 manat. "However, the operators -- Azercell and sometimes Bakcell disagree with this," Abbasov said.

Today, only mobile operator Azerfon has a license to provide 3G services.
