Couple charged with armed robbery in theft tryLAWRENCE, Jul 29, 2011 (The Eagle-Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 19-year-old woman and her 16-year-old boyfriend were arrested after they attacked and beat a man and tried to steal his cellphone, police said. Officers went to 6 Camella Teoli Way for a report of a possible kidnapping about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and met Kayla Carrasco, 19, of 43 Camella Teoli Way. Carrasco told officers "a guy was trying to grab me on the street and make me go with him." She told police the man was across the street inside a multi-services business at the corner of Oak and Jackson Streets. When officers checked the store, they found the 37-year-old victim with a torn shirt and scratches all over his neck and back, who told them a different story. The victim said he was in the store and was approached by Carrasco who asked him to go outside and speak with her. The victim told police he did go outside to speak to her and she asked to use his cellphone. The victim said he handed over his phone and that she began talking to someone telling them to hurry up and come to her. When he told Carrasco he needed his phone back, she refused and moved away from him telling him to wait. The victim told police he attempted to grab his cellphone out of her hand and she attacked him, punching and scratching him and jumping on top of him. The victim said the 16-year-old boy appeared "out of nowhere" and began punching him. The 16-year-old had an object in his right hand and began striking him in the head with it, the victim said. The victim told police he was able to get away from the pair and get back inside the business. The 16-year-old ran from the scene and Carrasco ran across the street, the victim said. Detectives viewed the security video at the business which backed up the victim's version of events, police said. Carrasco and the 16-year-old, who returned to the scene, were arrested. Carrasco was charged with armed robbery and assault and battery and held on $1,000 cash bail. The 16-year-old was charged with armed robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon a butterfly knife, assault and battery, possession of a firearm, a BB gun without a firearms identification card, and carrying a dangerous weapon. Police recovered the BB gun in several pieces and the 16-year-old told them it broke as soon as he hit the victim with it. Police said during booking Carrasco yelled to the 16-year-old, "Why did you bring the gun babe? That's armed robbery." The 16-year-old was ordered held and was taken to a secure juvenile facility in Lowell, police said.
