[July 28, 2011] Report: NCAA's decision on OU basketball investigation to come this week Tweet Jul 25, 2011 (The Oklahoman - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Former Oklahoma men's basketball coach Jeff Capel will not be named in a report the NCAA will release later this week, according CBSSports.com. But a source told The Oklahoman it won't completely resolve the investigation. CBSSports.com said the report will implicate former OU assistant Oronde Taliaferro, but a source told The Oklahoman the NCAA infractions committee must still weigh whether it will penalize OU. An NCAA inquiry began 15 months ago when TMZ.com reported former OU center Keith "Tiny" Gallon received a $3,000 loan from Jeffrey Hausinger, a Florida financial adviser, to allow his high school to release Gallon's transcripts so he could play for the Sooners. Phone and email records revealed Taliaferro communicated with Hausinger. Taliaferro resigned in April 2010. No longer in college basketball, Taliaferro is expected to receive a show-cause penalty for his part in the investigation. After the report surfaced, OU officials conducted their investigation and have worked jointly with the NCAA. OU has refused to release any records pertaining to the investigation, withholding documents until the matter is resolved. If Taliaferro is implicated, it's uncertain whether OU will be sanctioned considering the basketball program already was on probation for rules violations involving hundreds of impermissible recruiting phone calls by former OU head coach Kelvin Sampson. Capel compiled a 96-69 record in five seasons at OU but was fired days after the season ended. OU hired Lon Kruger. Capel is now an assistant at Duke, his alma mater.
